God’s Story – Season 2: How a Christian Animated Series Reached Over 1 Million Views

AUTHOR: Animwood CATEGORY: Cartoons

Over 1 million organic YouTube views across one season. 25 episodes. 75 minutes of animation. Animwood produced Season 2 of God’s Story for Crossroads Kids’ Club, creating a Christian animated series that brings Bible stories to life for children ages 4 - 7.

Across three years of ongoing production, our team developed the series' visual storytelling through character design, cinematic 2D animation, sound design, and music. The finished episodes continue to serve audiences beyond YouTube, supporting children's ministry through the client's website, app, events, and educational sessions.

The Project: Animated Bible Stories for Children

Crossroads Kids’ Club creates content that helps children explore the Bible and understand the foundations of Christian faith. Its God’s Story series introduces young audiences to biblical events and Christian values through accessible animated storytelling.

For Season 2, Animwood continued developing the series' visual identity and producing new episodes for children ages 4–7. The goal was to create engaging Bible story cartoons that balance educational value, historical context, and cinematic storytelling.

Our team handled illustration, character design, storyboarding, animation, direction, sound design, and music, supporting the production from early visual development through to the finished episodes.

Character Design and Backgrounds

Biblical animation for children requires a balance between historical context and visual accessibility. Characters, clothing, props, and environments need to reflect the period while remaining clear and engaging for young viewers.

We researched the visual references behind each story to develop historically informed characters and assets. The environments required particular attention, especially the desert landscapes featured in many biblical events.

Rather than treating backgrounds as simple scenery, we designed them to contribute to the atmosphere and storytelling. Sand, light, shadows, and landscape details helped create distinctive settings that gave each scene depth and a memorable visual identity.

Cinematic Storytelling and 2D Animation

Bible stories often explore significant events and complex themes. Our approach was to preserve their emotional weight while making them accessible and visually engaging for children.

We combined cut-out animation with cel animation to create expressive characters and cinematic scenes. Dynamic lighting, shadows, and post-production effects added depth and atmosphere, helping the stories feel immersive rather than purely instructional.

This combination of 2D animation techniques allowed us to maintain the series' established visual identity while expanding its storytelling possibilities throughout the season.

Results: Over 1 Million Organic YouTube Views

Across Season 2, God’s Story generated over 1 million organic YouTube views. The project demonstrates the scale and longevity that consistent, serialized Christian animated content can achieve when developed for a specific audience and supported by an ongoing production partnership.

Individual episodes typically generated around 75,000–100,000 organic YouTube views, with the strongest-performing episodes reaching approximately 250,000–300,000 views.

At the time of the reported results, the Crossroads Kids’ Club channel had around 280,000 subscribers.

The production results:

3 years of month-to-month animation production

3 - 4 minutes of animation per episode

25 episodes of God’s Story produced

75 minutes of completed animation

Over 1 million organic YouTube views across the season

What’s important is that the impact extends beyond YouTube.

The episodes are also used through Crossroads Kids’ Club's app and website, at events, and during children's meetings and educational sessions. These additional uses help introduce biblical topics, support children's ministry, and encourage discussions about the Bible.

For churches, ministries, and Christian nonprofits, this is an important consideration when planning animated video production. A well-developed series can become a reusable content resource across digital platforms and in-person activities, rather than a collection of videos limited to one channel.
