We had the honor of bringing the legacy of civil rights icon Dorothy Irene Height to life in the episode of Herstory for ABC News. We used dynamic visuals, mixed media approach and expressive storytelling to capture her fight for justice and equality. Every frame was crafted to educate, inspire, and celebrate her history.
Character design
During the visual development of the Herstory Lessons series our creative team focused on the main female characters and the impact they have had on women's standing in the modern world.
Dorothy's story was shaped by many key figures, from Martin Luther King Jr. to her friends, colleagues and through detailed sketches we ensured the accurate portrayal, capturing their historical significance.
Mixed media design
For thisepisode we went with a mixed media approach to visually narrate the story; blending photography, newspaper clippings, and hand-drawn elements for a rich, layered composition. We used a combination of various textures, botanical elements, halftone patterns, and bold typography to give it a timeless feel.
Behind the scenes
Since the focus of this video series is on the characters, animating them well was crucial to bring the story to life. The design and movement of each character were carefully crafted to ensure they conveyed the right emotions and narrative using MOHO.
Since we also specialize in 3D modeling, texturing, and animation, we wanted to implement it in this project as well and used Blender for parts of the animation.
