Żabka Energy Drink Commercial: Live-Action Meets 2D Animation

Animwood partnered with Żabka, one of Poland’s largest convenience store chains, to create a TV commercial promoting its new energy drink flavors. The concept takes the protagonist on a journey through surreal worlds, each inspired by a different flavor.

Our team handled the style frames, storyboarding, illustrations, 2D animation, and compositing, bringing the concept to life through bold visual effects and unexpected environments.

The result was a distinctive energy drink commercial that attracted over 600,000 views on YouTube.

 

Strategy: Live-Action Footage Meets Animation

The campaign also included two paid social media ads designed to appeal to a young adult audience. Our approach combined live-action footage with expressive 2D animation to create an alternative to conventional energy drink advertising.

Instead of aiming for a polished, photorealistic CGI look, we embraced an exaggerated, cartoon-inspired visual style and an over-the-top storyline. This hybrid animation approach gave the campaign a distinctive personality while keeping the product and its new flavors at the center of the experience.

 

Design: A Mixed-Media Approach to 2D Animation

We treated 2D animation as an integral part of the creative concept rather than a conventional post-production layer. The protagonist’s filmed performance became part of surreal worlds built from photographs, drawings, textures, and film elements.

Our animators combined these materials with fluid transitions, playful camera movements, and exaggerated visual effects. The result was a mixed-media style that blended live action and illustration in a playful, tongue-in-cheek way.

This approach helped the commercial stand out through distinctive visuals and unconventional storytelling, giving the energy drink campaign a memorable identity.

 

Backstage: From Film Set to Final Composite

Our involvement on set from the beginning gave the team a clear understanding of how the live-action footage would work with the animated elements. Animwood also provided VFX supervision on set, helping prepare the footage for compositing and making the transition from filming to animation more efficient.

The behind-the-scenes materials include storyboards, screen recordings, and footage from the film set, offering a closer look at the production process, from initial planning to the final commercial.
