UI Animation for Apps and Digital Products

UI Animation

Modern apps and websites can feel stiff and unwelcoming when every screen and interaction remains static. UI animation introduces movement where it can improve the user experience, helping people understand interactions, follow information and connect with the visual identity of a digital product.

At Animwood, we create UI animation and animated content for apps, websites and digital products, combining 2D animation, illustration, motion design and character animation with workflows adapted to real technical requirements.

Animated Content for Apps

We animate app layouts, buttons, icons, screens, transitions, illustrations and interactive elements to make digital products more intuitive, expressive and engaging.

UI animation is not simply about adding movement. A well-designed animation can communicate an action, guide attention, explain a change of state or make an interaction easier to understand.

We create animated onboarding sequences, micro-interactions, animated icons, visual explanations and other elements that help turn static interfaces into more dynamic experiences.

Animated Brand Characters

Animated characters and mascots can also become part of an app's visual identity. They can appear in onboarding, educational content, notifications, empty states and other moments throughout the user experience.

Our Wise Panda project is an example of this approach. We developed a panda mascot and a series of animated assets for the app, combining character design and 2D animation with the requirements of a digital product.

Our Expertise: Imprint App

One of our larger app animation projects has been our collaboration with Imprint, an educational app built around short, visually driven learning experiences that has clinched Google's App of the Year 2023!

Animwood created illustrations and animated content for courses covering subjects including philosophy, history, business, personal development and other areas of learning.

Each subject required a distinctive visual style and animation approach. Rather than applying one look across the entire product, we developed different visual languages depending on the topic and how the information needed to be communicated.

The animations became part of the learning experience, helping transform complex subjects into shorter and more accessible visual sequences.

Lottie and Rive Animation

Animation created for video does not necessarily work directly inside an app. Digital products require assets that are lightweight, scalable and compatible with the way the interface is built.

Depending on the project, we create animation in Adobe After Effects and prepare it for integration using Lottie and JSON, or work with SVG sequences and Rive when a project requires a different level of interaction or responsiveness.

Lottie is useful for lightweight vector-based animation that can be integrated into mobile apps and websites. Rive offers another approach for interactive animation that can respond to user actions and interface states.

The right format depends on the product, the type of animation and the technical requirements of the final implementation.

Optimizing Animation for Apps

Performance is an important part of UI animation. An animation that looks good during production can still create problems when implemented in a real product if the assets are unnecessarily complex or heavy.

We therefore consider optimization throughout the production process, from simplifying vector artwork and animation properties to reducing file size and adapting assets for the target platform.

We have also worked on optimizing 3D animated content for apps, where performance and asset size can be particularly important.

Why UI Animation Matters

The most effective UI animation is often subtle. A button can respond to an interaction, an icon can communicate a change of state, a transition can clarify navigation and an illustration can explain a complex idea.

For educational apps, animation can support visual learning. For branded products, it can strengthen identity and make the interface feel more distinctive.

At Animwood, we combine 2D animation, illustration, motion design and technical animation workflows to create content that works both visually and within the constraints of real apps and websites.

UI Animation for Apps and Websites

Whether you need animated interface elements, interactive illustrations, onboarding animation, animated icons or a complete library of visual content, UI animation can become an important part of the digital product experience.

Our experience with projects such as Imprint and Wise Panda allows us to approach app animation from both creative and technical perspectives, from developing the visual language to preparing assets for implementation.

From Lottie and JSON animation to SVG and Rive, we adapt the production approach to the needs of each product.
