What happens when two researchers meet a man who claims to be the next pope - and says he knows everything about time? That is the starting point for All the Popes of the World, a new animated film written and directed by Rafał Blecharz and produced by Animwood Studio.
Based on one of Blecharz’s short stories published in Polish literary magazines, the film is a crazy and playful meditation on time, mixing comedy, surreal situations and unexpected plot twists.
Development funding from the Polish Film Institute
All the Popes of the World has received development funding from the Polish Film Institute (PISF) in 2026 and is now moving into its early writing stage. Author-driven film is planned for the festival distribution after securing the production financing.
Rafał Blecharz is a director, writer and chief creative producer at Animwood, with a strong focus on storytelling and original animation projects.
Looking for European co-production partners
Animwood is currently looking for European producers and production partners interested in joining the project at an early development stage.
The studio is already developing original animated films and series alongside commercial and commissioned animation. Its portfolio includes the animated documentary DODA.
Animwood’s studio in Kraków works with international partners across animation development and production.
Connecting Polish animation with Europe
International co-production is an important part of Animwood’s approach to original projects. The studio is also participating in Young Horizons Industry, a Warsaw-based international co-production forum focused on film and series for young audiences.
